Helping children caught in war or famine to escape from such life threatening events!
May 12, 2016
Lawrence Rotary Club is hosting Richard Moore from Derry, N Ireland Thursday May 12th @ 12.15 pm Greater Lawrence Tech School -57 River Rd, Lawrence Come and hear the inspiring story of a boy blinded in war who found freedom in forgiveness
. Richard Moore is the founder and Director of Children in Crossfire. His experience as a child motivated him to start the organization in 1996. When Richard was 10 years old he was shot and blinded by a rubber bullet fired by a British solider as he ran along the bottom of his school playground in Derry. Despite losing his sight in such a traumatic way he was able to bounce back very quickly. He returned to school, went onto university, is married with two children and has had a very active and fulfilled life. Richard credits his family and community, and that despite the poverty and challenges that faced him and the people of Derry he still had choices and opportunities and was able to get an education. Richard set-up an organization that would help children who are caught in the crossfire of poverty; children who wake up every day without access to food, clean water, and proper health care. He decided to use his experience to be a voice for those children. Over the past 20 years Children in Crossfire has raised over $40M to support projects in Ireland, Africa, Asia & South America helping some of the most vulnerable children on the planet. Children in Crossfire aims to make a significant and lasting contribution to the fight against poverty. Richard Moore will be in Boston from Monday, May 9 thru Thursday, May 12 to meet new and old friends.
