At the September 2nd Meeting:

Kathy Boshar opened what was meant to be the first regular meeting of the year (i.e. with a speaker) but the mayor couldn't make it after all so we had another summer shorty.  We Wheel folk love these as they take no time to do.

Roger led us in song with Joe Giordano on keyboard.  Well, actually, it was pretty much of a solo effort by Rog due to his esoteric choice of "Up a Lazy River" as a song.  After all, most of us can't be taken far from our comfort zone of "You Are My Sunshine" and "Take Me Out To the Ball Game" and still be expected to come through.

Kathy put the old "service above self" into action in a table service sort of way by bringing dessert trays to the individual tables.  She also rewarded the four of us women who turned out for the meeting with a special prize.  Unfortunately the prizes were purchased a couple of weeks ago but none of us turned up for that particular session.  Some disgruntled man was heard to remark that we were being rewarded for missing meetings but we all prefer to think of it as being rewarded for our overall fabulousness.

Birthdays:

Bob Autieri and Felci were the proud cheese board recipients this week.  Felci is threatening to regift his at the Christmas party this year so beware all.

On the subject of cheese boards, I feel a need to point out a GROSS miscarriage of justice.  I missed the meeting on my birthday but of couse was hit up for the money but I received NO CHEESE BOARD.  I might have to seek legal recourse in tn this travesty.

Announcements:

Charlie Manzi has generously offered to take over PR for the departed Dave Van Dam.  Nice of you to volunteer Charlie but I hope you have have some friend or associate who can fix you up with a supply of clown noses without which I am not sure the job can be done.

Mike Shirley made his pitch for THE Rotary Foundation.  Goal for the year is $2,200.

Frank Terranova continues to remind us of the September 14th date for the boat trip followed by a barbeque at his beach house in Seabrook (where, he assures us, "if you divorce your wife at least she's still your sister.).

Felci announced that we have found a sponsor for Wines of the World, though who that sponsor is remains a mystery.  The October 4th event, he promises, will be "full of surprises".  Coming from Felci that could be a somewhat dodgy proposition.

Janet Mills and her husband Greg will be participating in the September 26 Vettes to Vets event.  She is asking for contributions of items that the men and women in the Veterans Hospital can use.  I hope the Rotary really loads them up.  After all, these people risked everything defending our country.  The leasy any of us can do is to make sure they are provided with day-to-day necessities.

Dave Dreyfus announced that the annual Hike for Hope will take place on October 3rd.

Scott Dickenson announced the Nevins Home golf tournament will be October  4th.

Thought for the day:

Kathy, only kidding about the cheese board.  Trust me anyone who has been married twice and has "warmed" as many new apartments as I have is certainly not in need of another cheese board!
